The Proposal
December 4, 2009
I love telling this story! Chad was SO creative. I feel like the luckiest woman alive!
I was just getting off work. I was freezing as I hurried to my car. I opened the door and hopped in. As I did I saw that there was something plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet. I had charged my phone earlier in the morning and thought to myself... I unplugged that this morning! Then I realized that it lead to our GPS.
For those of you who don't know, we named our GPS Alfred!
Alfred had a note on him that said "Follow Me". So, I put the car in drive and started following Alfred's directions. I couldn't stop smiling! I thought maybe this was it! Maybe Chad was going to propose! I kept telling myself that he wasn't going to because I didn't want to show up to wherever I was about to go and have the man I love with all my heart not pop the question. I kept telling myself that if I was about to drive to wherever I was going and he was standing there with roses that it would be just as wonderful, spontaneous, and romantic.
Finally, after Alfred lead me on and off the interstate and up and down some streets I saw Chad's little red Saturn. He was parked on the side of the road next to a small private lake that we had snuck into once before.
I jumped out of the car and so did he. We walked up to the lake and he told me that he wanted to kiss a pretty girl by a pretty lake. I was so happy at this point and kept thinking about how lucky I was to have someone that would do something like this for me.
Then he said he wanted to ask me something else. He pulled a small white box out of his coat pocket and opened it as he got on one knee. He said, "Will you grow old with me?" My hand flung to my mouth as if they were polar opposites and my eyes swelled with tears. I realized after a moment or so that he was still kneeling waiting for a response. I started violently shaking my head up and down and was eventually able to stammer out a small "Yes!".
I hugged him so tight. Then, I asked to see the ring! He picked out the most beautiful ring I have ever seen!
